Carrie Steele-Pitts Home’s Transportation Initiative
Location: Atlanta, Georgia, USA
Impact:
In Atlanta, the Carrie Steele-Pitts Home (CSPH), founded in 1888 by Mrs. Carrie Steele-Pitts, provides a nurturing haven for vulnerable children and youth, particularly those unable to secure family foster care. Established to serve abandoned children at Atlanta’s Terminal Railroad Station, CSPH remains a beacon of hope, offering a stable home where children, especially older youth aged 16 to 21, can heal and grow. Many face barriers to attending vital activities due to lack of transportation, which can hinder their emotional and academic progress. A $20,000 grant from Ten Thousand Reasons, represented by Julian Munoz and Jovani Simon, empowered CSPH to purchase a new 15-passenger van, ensuring residents can access essential appointments and opportunities. This grant enabled CSPH to provide:
A new 15-passenger van, offering safe and reliable transportation for children to school, medical appointments, and enrichment activities like piano and swim lessons.
Increased access to educational and skill-building programs, including tutoring for high school completion, fostering personal growth and independence.
A renewed sense of connection and inclusion, supporting an atmosphere of "home" where children can heal, develop skills, and prepare for adulthood.
Thank you, Julian Munoz and Jovani Simon, for your dedicated representation and commitment to advancing the transformative mission of the Carrie Steele-Pitts Home!
